Open Doors is a charity working to support persecuted Christians in over 70 countries around the world. Of those, over 90% of Christians killed for their faith in 2022 were in sub-Saharan Africa.
Open Doors’ brief was to create a four-year global campaign to raise awareness, funding, advocacy and support. The four-year vision is to see that the global community acknowledges and acts against extreme violence and supports the church to persevere.
Working with the strategy and proposition developed by ASD Planning, our task was to create a visual identity to bring the Arise Africa campaign to life.
We chose to make the leaves of the Camphor tree – the national tree of Nigeria – the main focus of the visual identity to symbolise the strength and resilience of the African church. The leaf shape became a framing device for photography and the African patterns we developed.
The campaign starts by focusing on displaced people who are driven from their homes and forced to live in camps. The ‘Stop the violence. Start the healing’ headline leads the creative that appears in advertising, a fundraising pack, reply device and website.
