St Mary’s Church, Ealing is a Grade II listed building and one of the best surviving works of architect, Samuel Teulon.
In 2003, a huge restoration project began work on the inside of the building. This included redecorating in colours more in keeping with the original Victorian decoration scheme, new lighting, York stone floors, sound system and reordering the chancel, to name just a few.
They came to The Smithy Creative with a brief to rebrand the church. Through questionnaires to the PCC and congregation, we distilled our findings to create a brand strategy that gets to the heart of St Mary’s.
We created a big brand idea of ‘Inside out’ communicates both the beauty of Jesus shown in his people, and the beauty of the inside of the church building.
‘Inside out’ led us to create a logo inspired by the stained glass windows and the octagonal communion table.
The visual identity system we designed was inspired by a series of textures and colours found in the church, such as the prominent columns and windows. A series of leaflets promoting the various clubs and events brings the words of Jesus into the 21st century for those who may never have stepped into a church before.
The result is a striking and sympathetic visual identity that reveals the beauty of the inside, out.
